On the evening of June 18, the School of Music, University of Jinan (UJN) held a concert entitled “Remain True to Our Original Aspiration Show Our Ambition with Songs” at the Shandong Grand Theatre to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. Xu Jingyan, Secretary of the Party Committee of UJN, Wang Baoxian, Vice President, representatives of relevant functional departments, as well as supervisors and guests from other universities and units, attended the concert.
The concert was conducted by Tian Hao, a young teacher of the School of Music, also an instructor of the Shandong Quancheng Chorus, and was chaired by Hu Chunyi, deputy secretary of the Youth League Committee of UJN. In the first half, the opening song "Soybean White Rice and Peanut", in the form of a semi-music drama, presented a lively scene of the Jingdu Commercial Street after the launch of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal. Then, "Like a Dream", a tz’u, accompanied on Pipa, a 4-stringed Chinese lute with a soft and graceful sound, showed the beauty of national music through the combination of national tune and classical poetry; "Farewell at the South of the City" was played with a melody that everyone is familiar with; another two foreign works, “Wangol” and “Balleilakka” , lively and vivid, were performed with the percussion and dance steps of chorus members. In the second half, teachers and students jointly performed a large-scale musical work with the milestone significance of China's modern chorus—The Yellow River Cantata, which is a musical masterpiece and a far-reaching national epic that shows the national spirit. With full enthusiasm and high morale, the teachers and students are eager to celebrate the glorious history and the unyielding spirit of the Chinese nation and to convey the patriotism and positive energy of the times.
After the performance, Mr.Xu Jingyan, communicated with the cast members. He gave his full recognition of the performance and expressed warm congratulations to the success of the concert and thanked all cast members for presenting such an elegant art feast to the audience. He also pointed out that our School of Music has repeatedly participated in important shows of CCTV and Shandong TV stations on behalf of UJN, and has been highly praised for many times in cultural performances throughout Shandong Province and the country at large. It is hoped that our School of Music should give full play to its professional advantages and demonstrate the quality of UJN students, and celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China with practical actions.
The School of Music attaches great importance to the daily teaching and practice. The high-quality presentation of the concert reflects the year-on-year improvement of the quality of talent training and fruitful teaching results.
