From March 29 to 31, the final of the 10th National College Students Mathematical Competition sponsored by the Chinese Mathematical Society (CMS) and co-organized by Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT) was held in Harbin. Hu Guangfu, a student from Class 1506, School of Electrical Engineering, University of Jinan (UJN) won a third prize in the national non-mathematical final.

The competition aims to stimulate students' interest in mathematics, cultivate students' mathematical attainments and promote the reform and construction of mathematics curriculum in colleges and universities, having become one of the most influential and most attended college student competitions in China. A total of nearly 140,000 college students signed up for the competition. After the preliminary and final competitions, 498 students eventually won the first, second and third prizes in the final.

The UJN attaches great importance to the organization and development of the competition. It was implemented by the School of Mathematical Sciences which provided tutoring and training for participating students, and actively promoted and greatly supported by all the other schools in the UJN. In recent years, we have achieved encouraging results in both preliminaries and finals and every year there are students winning second and third prizes in the finals. The School of Mathematical Sciences has built a favorable platform for the UJN students to take part in the competition and contributed to a sound situation where practice, learning and teaching are strengthened by the competition.
