On April 2, a group of 5 delegates from Fachhochschule Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences headed by Rota Bude, Vice President visited University of Jinan(UJN). Xu Jingyan, Secretary of the Party Committee of the UJN, Zhang Shiqiang, UJN President, and Wang Baoxian, Vice President met with the delegation. Directors concerned, from School Office, International Office, School of Electrical Engineering and Startup School attended the event.

At first, Mr. Xu extended his welcome to the delegation and gave a basic introduction of the history, academic achievements and subject construction of the UJN. Mr. Xu said the UJN is a comprehensive university co-built by Shandong Province and the Chinese Ministry of Education. Since its establishment 70 years ago, the UJN has always carried out friendly exchanges with overseas colleges in the spirit of openness, inclusiveness and advancing with the times. The exchanges between the UJN and German colleges have a long history and the sphere and depth of cooperation are increasingly strengthened. Although education systems of the two sides are different, there is still huge potential for cooperation in student training and school-enterprise cooperation. Mr. Xu hoped that through this visit, the UJN will further promote cooperation, in a tangible way, to build a bridge between theory and practice for student training in colleges and universities.

Then, President Zhang Shiqiang highlighted the international education of the UJN to the delegation. Mr. Zhang noted that the achievements made under the cooperation with many European colleges provide precious experience for the cooperation of both sides in the future. As a Chinese saying goes: A thousand-li journey begins with the first step. The UJN will hold extensive exchanges with Fachhochschule Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences in terms of both teacher and student exchanges, teaching and scientific research cooperation, and applied technology training, as well as promote cooperation among governments, colleges and enterprises. Besides, as Shandong is the home to Confucius and Mencius, and Jinan is renowned as the world's spring city, Mr. Zhang welcomes German students who are interested in the Chinese language and culture to study at UJN.

Next, Vice President Wang Baoxian and the delegation discussed the feasibility of jointly applying for or managing Sino-foreign cooperative education projects or institutions. He hoped that the two universities can sign a cooperative agreement as soon as possible, carry out close cooperation in the fields of electrical automation and machinery manufacturing, and establish a school-enterprise base for practice and training in order to cultivate more intelligent students, facilitate the international development of the UJN and better serve the society.

After that, Mr. Bude, thanked the UJN staff for their reception and briefly introduced Fachhochschule Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences. He said that Germany attaches great importance to educational cooperation with Chinese colleges; the purpose of this visit is to enhance the UJN’s understanding of the German dual-system university of applied technology. On the basis of student exchanges, he hoped to gradually advance the combination of theory and practice, adding that Fachhochschule Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences will rely on German companies to provide support and assistance to the UJN students who study in Germany.

After the talk, President Zhang presented the appointment letter of the visiting professor of the UJN to Vice President Rota Bude so as to strengthen mutual academic exchanges and cooperation.

During the visit, the delegation also visited the School of Electrical Engineering and its laboratories and communicated with the teachers and students.

Located at North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany and founded in 1971, Fachhochschule Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences has more than 13,000 students now. It also has satellite campuses in Bielefeld, Minden and Gutersloh. As the inaugurator of dual-system undergraduate education, the university has 8 disciplines, 56 undergraduate and master majors. By taking applied sciences at its core and emphasizing the application of scientific research accomplishments in actual production, it has formed its modern, practical and cooperative characteristics and obtain sound cooperation with universities, enterprises and research institutions in many countries.
