School leaders Xu Jingyan, Zhang Shiqiang, Wang Yuhua, Zhang Shuoqiu, Wang Zhi, Chen Yuehui, Liu Zongming, Li Guanghong, along with the representative of alumni, Hao Xianwei, the founderof Kukeduo, a company specialized in applets development, were seated at the rostrum. In addition, there were representatives of teachers, secretary of the Party Committee and deans of each school, and comrades in charge of corresponding departments. More than 10,000 freshmen of 2020 with some of their parents also attended the event. Zhang Shuoqiu, Deputy-Secretary of the Party Committee of UJN, presided over the ceremony.
After the solemn national flag-raising ceremony, representatives of excellent teachers, alumni, as well as undergraduates and freshmen, successively delivered their speeches. Then the Secretary of the Party Committee of UJN awarded the memorial trophy to our alumni, Mr. Hao Xianwei; university leaders issued the letters of appointment to the class teachers and counsellors of freshmen. After that, Zhang Shiqiang, the Principle of UJN, delivered a speech.
Prof. Qin Xiaochun from the School of Biological Science and Technology of UJN, the winner of National Outstanding Youth Fund Project, Taishan Scholar and Young Expert, shared her own experiences and reflections on life. She encouraged students to set ambitious and lofty life goals and endeavor to achieve the best of themselves in their precious youth time. She said that, as a representative of teachers, she would never forget her original aspiration to foster virtue through education and would fulfill her missions to cultivate students for our country, with better education methods and resolute determination.
The representative of outstanding alumni, Mr. Hao Xianwei appreciated and made his best wishes to our university. Based on his own experiences in starting up business, Mr. Hao sincerely told the freshmen that the university days are important in forming one’s personal values and developing a good learning habit. Everyone should scheme their own plan about future and determine life orientation through continuous attempts. He concluded his passionate speech with the best wishes to everyone.
Representative of undergraduates, Zhang Bo from the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, shared his thoughts about the excellent teachers and students. He expressed his gratitude for teachers and promised to contribute to our country with his knowledge and practical actions in this new era. Then Song Wenxuan, representative of freshmen, from the School of Foreign Languages, shared her views about the goals of university students, and expected schoolmates to endeavor for a better future together.
The Principle of UJN delivered an enthusiastic speech. He noted that 2020 is unique in our life. In the epidemic of COVID-19, our students obeyed the guidance of the Party Central Committee and volunteered to participate in the fight against the virus. After overcoming difficulties and obstacles and experiencing tears and laughter, our students grew up and had a better understanding of the concepts of nation and responsibility. From our students and millions of compatriots, people could expect a brighter future of China.
Principle Zhang Shiqiang noted that it was the obligatory mission of young students in the new era to know and perform their own responsibilities. It was of vital importance to set up the faith and improve oneself with practical actions and nurture morality and virtues. He wished students to value the current safe and stable situation and follow university’s instructions regarding epidemic prevention and control, as well as to earnestly perform cleaning and self-protection measures.
At last, Principle Zhang Shiqiang concluded that, with the joint efforts of everyone, students of UJN would certainly shoulder the historical responsibilities in this new era and create glorious achievements for the sake of life, our motherland and times!
