School of Politics and Public Management

The school of Politics and Public Management of University of Jinan grows out of School of Social Science. In June 2007, it changed into the present name. On 27th December 2011, the Department of Labor and Social Security and the Department of Social Work merged into the school to form the present School of Politics and Public Management. Now the school has six departments with six bachelor degree programs enrolled national wide. These bachelor degree programs include Political Science and Administration Science, Ideological and Political Education, International Politics, Public Administration and Management, Social Work, Labor and Social Security. There are more than 1300 students studying in the school. As one of characteristic major in universities of Shandong province, Social Work is one of ten majors supported by Provincial Fiscal of University of Jinan in Characteristic Schools Construction Project of Shandong Province. Two courses of Social Work, which are Introduction to Social Work and Introduction to Social Science, have been awarded as Excellent Courses of Shandong Province. Now the school has the master degree program of Social Science as the first-level discipline, and the master degree program of the Basic Principles of Marxism Theory and Ideological Political Education as the secondary subjects. Social Science has been selected as one of Key Subjects of the Eleventh Five Years Plan and the Twelfth Five Years Plan of Shandong Province.

Now in the school of Politics and Public Management there are 74 full-time faculty members , 59 of whom are professional teachers including 10 professors and 21 associate professors, which is 52.5% in the total population of our faculty members; and there are 34 teaching staffs with PhD (including PhD students) ,which is 57.6% of the total teacher number; 14 master's tutors; 2 teachers have been awarded Young Scientists of Outstanding Achievement of Shandong Province; 1 teacher has the honor of Ten Excellent Teachers of Universities in Shandong Province by Qilu Evening News; 2 have been chosen to be Social Science subject Up-and-Coming Youngster of Shandong Province. Each faculty member has prominent achievement both in the field of education and research.

Recently, our faculty members achieved 14 National Social Science funds, 12 Humanity and Social Science Funds of Education Ministry, more than 50 scientific projects at province or ministry level; 6 first prizes of Excellent Social Science of Shandong Province, and more than 70 other awards at various level.

The bachelor program of Politics and Administration devotes to educate highly specialized personnel in the field of politics and administration engaged in government activities and its management, public policy investigation, and relative research and education in party authority and government, news and publication agency, state-run institution and enterprise, social association and other departments with well development of morality, intelligence, physique and aesthetic, theory accomplishment of politics and administrative science, and professional knowledge and skills of politics and administrative science. The basic schooling system of this program lasts four years (3-8 years in flexible system) with bachelor degree of Law. It includes two subjects-Political Science and Administration Science. Main courses of this program are principles of politics, principles of administration science, public administration, international politics, principles of social science, science of public policy, government economics, administrative law, administrative ethics, history of Chinese political thoughts, history of Western political thought, political system of modern China, comparative political system, human resources development and management, social survey and statistics, etc..

The bachelor program of Ideological Political Education devotes to educate highly specialized personnel with well development of morality, intelligence, physique and aesthetic, strong social responsibility consciousness, sustainable developing capacity and innovation spirit for the demand of social development. And after graduation they can be well qualified in the management activities of party authority and government, news and cultural agency and social association, and can be well engaged in the education and research tasks in middle schools or other higher schools. The basic education system of this program lasts four years (3-8 years in flexible system) with the bachelor of Law. It includes two main subjects-Ideological Political Education and Theory of Politics. The main courses include principles of Marxist Philosophy, political economics, principles of political science, introduction to law, Den Xiaoping theory and "Three Representatives", history of western politics and thoughts, introduction to international politics, principles of management, etc..

The bachelor program of Public Administration devotes to educate highly specialized personnel with well development of morality, intelligence, physique and aesthetic, strong social responsibility consciousness, sustainable developing capacity and innovation spirit for the demand of social development. And after graduation they can be well qualified in the management and research activities of party authority and government, news and cultural agency and social association. The basic education system of this program lasts four years (3-8 years in flexible system) with the bachelor degree of Management including two subjects-Public Administration and Management of Social Affairs. Main courses of the program are principles of politics, principles of management, science of public administration, science of public management, science of public policy, national civil service system, political system of modern China, and governmental economics, etc..

The bachelor program of International Politics devotes to educate highly specialized personnel with well development of morality, intelligence, physique and aesthetic, strong social responsibility consciousness, sustainable developing capacity and innovation spirit for the demand of social development. And after graduation they can be well qualified in the management activities of party authority and government, news and cultural agency and social association. The basic education system of this program lasts four years (3-8 years in flexible system) with the bachelor degree of Law including two subjects-Politics and Economics. The main courses include history of political thoughts, principles of political science, history of international relation, introduction to international politics, theory of western international relation, science of diplomacy, introduction to international law, etc..

The bachelor program of Social Work devotes to educate highly specialized and versatile applied talents with well development of morality, intelligence, physique and aesthetic, pursuit of social justice, strong social responsibility consciousness and social service consciousness, quiet familiar to basic knowledge of social science and social work, research ability of social survey and actual capacity of social work, and good ability on social and practice. The basic education system of this program lasts four years (3-8 years in flexible system) with the bachelor degree of Law. Main courses of this program are introduction to social science, introduction to social work, social survey and research method, social casework, social group work, social community work, social administration, social welfare, social security, social psychology, social statistics, etc..

The bachelor program of Labor and Social Security devotes to educate highly specialized applied talents with well development of morality, intelligence, physique and aesthetic, pursuit of social justice, strong social responsibility consciousness and social service consciousness, quiet familiar to professional knowledge of social science, management and economics and other related theories, mastered modern management techniques and methods, and quiet acquainted with basic theories and professional skills of Labor and Social Security. The basic education system lasts four years (3-8 years in flexible system) with the bachelor degree of Management.
